After the gospel accounts of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection, the story is picked up by the book of Acts. Acts follows the development and expansion of the Church and the Kingdom of God it embodies. The Church and the Kingdom are inextricably linked and we will examine this relationship as we make our way through the book highlighting characteristics of the Kingdom of God.

An Introduction (04-10-2021)

The book of Acts literally begins and ends with the Kingdom of God and with every chapter in between we witness its unfolding. Join us this week as we begin our look into the beginnings of the Church in the New Testament and how it serves as a sign, instrument, and foretaste of the Kingdom of God.

Built Upon the Spirit (04-17-2021)

At the end of the gospel of Matthew, Jesus gives the disciples the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. And, yet, at the beginning of the book of Acts He tells them to wait. So which is it? Go? Wait? And what were they waiting for? Join us this week as examine a Kingdom that is built upon the Spirit of God.

Abundance and Generosity (04-24-2021)

As representatives of God’s Kingdom, we are both recipients and re- distributors of God’s abundant resources. As we look at the early church in Acts chapters 2-4, we see a community of Christ followers who become very aware of the immeasurable, abundant riches of Christ’s mercy and kindness. Their response to Him is reflected in a life transformation that is evidenced by radical love and generosity to those in their community. When you have a genuine encounter with Jesus, your life will never be the same!

A Kingdom for All (05-01-2021)

We are living in divided times. We only need look around to see the evidence of this. The news and social media have found ways to commodify and capitalize on this polarization and work to further these divisions. The Church is, unfortunately, not immune to this cultural trap, but is one of the worst offenders. What does it look like for the Church to recapture the inclusivity of the Kingdom of God by practicing radical hospitality?

Extraordinary Transformation (05-08-2021)

As we continue our series, Breaking In, we explore how the Holy Spirit drives extraordinary transformation. We also look at what we can learn about how the Church is to respond to that transformation.

Discernment Over Division (05-18-2021)

As the early Church began to expand and the gospel was being shared with new people groups for the first time, the apostles saw amazing evidence of the Spirit moving in exciting ways. Not all of the believers were excited by this, however, and the Church had to navigate potential division among the community. Join us as we ask what our missional communities can learn from their example.

An Expansive and Reconciliatory Kingdom

Jesus made it clear from the beginning of the book of Acts that the gospel of Christ and His Kingdom is to be both expansive and inclusive. It is to be taken to the very ends of the earth and is made available for every person to respond. He reminds us, through the words of Paul, that we have been forgiven much and have been reconciled to Him through the finished work of Christ on the cross. This truth motivates us to pursue a “ministry of reconciliation” that Jesus calls us to engage in within our world today.
